May 31st is World No Tobacco day. It recognises the problem of smoking, a disease that does not have a cure. This illness is an addiction, which is very difficult to stop.


This disease affects 1.2 billion people in the world. This causes the death of six million people in a year. An important fact is that of 6 million humans, 600,000 who do not smoke die from having a relative who smokes.


The passive smoker is the one who inhales the smoke. Many newborn children, if the mother smoked when pregnant, may come out with a very low weight, respiratory illnesses (asthma), or even dead!

There are many ways to quit smoking, the most important is willpower. The one who quits smoking is going to go through times of bad mood and anxiety. You can chew herbs, gum. A trick to quit smoking is to be convinced and believe in yourself that you will achieve it.

The method that works most is the combination of pharmacological and psychological treatment.


Psychological treatment works with motivation, self-esteem, emotions and self-efficacy, all of which helps to reduce anxiety and control stress. A very good phrase that is to quit smoking is "Today I do NOT smoke, tomorrow I DO NOT know". The pharmacological treatment is a type of therapy that uses gum, patches, candies or nicotine gum. It is said that nicotine inhalers are NOT good for quitting because it is too similar to smoking.
