Romeo and Juliet, by Shakespeare, is the best tragedy ever in the history of Literature. Almost everyone knows the love story between Juliet Capulet and Romeo Montague and the adversity between their families. Perfectly, their romance symbolizes the concept of real and true love. All of their obstacles and misery re enhance the values of passion and affection. Differing from many modern cliché narrations about couples, Romeo and Juliet´s story brings to life the real significance of lovers.

Nowadays, many artists and writers have made modern adaptations about this classic of all times. One of them is the theatre production of Drum Up company at Metropolitan Sura theatre represented by Tita Sapag (as Juliet), Arturo Alonso (as Romeo), Francisco Ortiz, Kevin Schiele, Fernando Margenet, Tomas Martínez Christensen and Nicolas Kohen.

It is a well performed play, very simple and in line with the original story. It wasn't a complicated adaption, the only factor that has been modified to make it easier to understand is the language used. The company that produced it is a really well known and prestigeous theatre producer, but this show is not dazzling. Even though the actors are great and their performance is high level, as it is a play done at Buenos Aires, the English level should be adapted in a way that the audience can understand. As they talk in a British English, and the play itself is written in an old manner, it is very difficult to comprehend the entire stage performance. Moreover, the costumes and scenography does not have much work: just one bed and few knives and clothes with not much attempt to pretend to be from Shakespeare's times.

Despite all the criticisms that may be made, it is important to remark the level and quality of the performance of the actors and their capacity to perform more than one character: there were only 7 performers and 22 characters. Even though it is not a play which can be entertaining for all the audience, if you have a well trained English Romeo & Juliet at the Metropolitan Sura is a highly recommended weekend program.
