A movie where emotions arise

Why do dogs come into our lives? What is their purpose? The movie A Dog’s Purpose gives an answer to these questions. Released in January 2017, and with the amazing performance of well-known actors, such as Dennis Quaid and KJ Apa, this film came to the big screen to touch our hearts. And, maybe, cause one or two tears to fall.

A Dog’s Purpose follows the life of a dog, Bailey, who is reincarnated into many different bodies every time he dies. With each new body he receives a new name, a new owner and a new home. Bailey repeatedly asks himself what his purpose in life is, and discovers it throughout the film.

One valid criticism that may arise is the fact that the dog talks. While this is true in the sense that we can hear the voice of the dog speaking, Bailey is not actually speaking, what we listen to are his thoughts inside his head. The director, Lasse Hallström, manages to portray the view of a dog as vividly as it is possible, with all the innocence and goodness these pets have.

Whether you like dogs or not, this movie is made for the whole family. Illustrating themes such as love, family, loyalty and friendship, A Dog’s Purpose focuses as much in the human nature as it does in Bailey. It brings to the screen situations and feelings spectators may feel related to, such as loneliness, sadness, bullying, jealousy, aggression, and many more.

Moreover, the film manages to show the different owners a dog can have, from the gentle, caring one, to the mean and truculent one. The public can reflect upon how animals are treated nowadays, and think to whom they feel more related to.

If you are looking for a movie that will make you laugh, cry and ponder about life, A Dog’s Purpose is perfect for you. Let’s hope that the sequel, A Dog’s Journey, is as good as this one.
